Fire on the Mountain

We’re planning to head over to this Fire on the Mountain festival near Thomaston tomorrow. It’s about an hour’s drive from Columbus, so I thought I’d mention it for any local readers who are still making plans for the weekend. We went last year and it was a great way to celebrate the spring weather. The scenic venue is in the middle of Sprewell Bluff State Park -- right next to a bluff-bordered river that’s shallow and gentle enough for wading. There will be bluegrass music, animal demonstrations for the kids, a little playground on one end of the site and towards the latter part of the afternoon, land management officials do a small-scale prescribed fire (which Will was fascinated by last year) followed by a larger fire a bit further from the site. The event's free but it's $3 to park.
